Transfer Students at Aureus University School of Medicine

Aureus University School of Medicine welcomes transfer students from accredited and ECFMG recognized medical schools to join our clinical rotations. Our programs are designed to integrate transfer students seamlessly into our community while upholding high academic and professional standards.

Eligibility Requirements for Transfer Students

1. USMLE Step 1 Exam:

All transfer students must have passed the USMLE Step 1 Exam to be eligible for clinical rotations at Aureus, which are currently conducted in Chicago.

2. Academic Transcripts:

Official Transcripts: Required from all previous universities attended.

3. Letters of Recommendation:

Letter of recommendation(s) can be used to request or a transfer. These should ideally come from faculty or supervisors familiar with your academic and clinical abilities.

4. Application Fee:

For the Year 2024 the application fee is waived

5. Tuition:

Tuition fees must be paid one month prior to the commencement of the program to secure your place in the clinical rotations.

Insurance Requirements

Health Insurance Requirement

  • Mandatory for New Students: Required to obtain health insurance before enrollment int the Aruba Health Care System. No exceptions.
  • Cost: Approximately $400 - $600 per semester, post-VISA approval.

Malpractice Insurance for Clinical Rotations

  • Requirement: Mandatory before starting clinical rotations.
  • Cost: Not included in tuition fees, $1500 per year during clinical years in the US.

Important Notes

  • Applicants are expected to have satisfied the academic and financial obligations of the university they were attending previously.
  • Transfers credits will only be accepted from an institution listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOM).
  • Clinical Science transfer students will be expected to complete 72 weeks of clinical clerkships.
  • If a student is transferring into Basic Sciences, they will be placed into the appropriate semester based upon completed courses at their previous university.
  • AUSOMA functions off a system-based curriculum. If you are caming from a subject-based curriculum, be advised, this could affect your entry time into the desired program you wish to enroll.
